Edgar Dunning Receives Delta's First Freedom of the Municipality Award

Edgar Dunning

As part of the 125th Anniversary, Delta's first Freedom of the Municipality Award was presented to Mr. Edgar Dunning on November 22, 2004.

The Freedom of the Municipality Award represents the highest honour that the Corporation of Delta can bestow on an individual. This recognition means to have "freedom of the municipality" and recipients are welcomed at any and all civic functions and meetings. Council has the authority, under Section 158 of the Community Charter, to confer this honour, by unanimous vote. This honour is restricted to only very exceptional cases of merit for an individual who has brought recognition to the respective community through his or her achievements. Mr. Dunning worked tirelessly in preserving and promoting Delta's unique history. Sadly, Edgar Dunning passed away on October 23, 2010 at the age of 100. Edgar Dunning's lifelong dedication to the betterment, heritage and preservation of Delta is remarkable - a legacy that will always be remembered.
