How the Council Process Works

Council Meetings

Council Meetings are held on pre-determined Mondays of each month in the Council Chamber at Delta Municipal Hall. The Afternoon session of Council Meetings commences at 3:30 pm and the Evening session at 7:00 pm. Members of the public wishing to attend Council meetings may view a copy of the Council Agenda online or obtain a copy from the Municipal Clerk's Office at the Hall. The Council Agenda may also be viewed at Delta public libraries.

If you are unable to attend Council meetings but are interested in the proceedings, the meetings are televised live by Cable 4 and screened again during the week. Contact Delta Cable at (604) 946-1144 for viewing times.

The Order of Business for Regular Meetings of Council is set out by Schedule A - { pdf 15KB } of the Council Procedure Bylaw No. 5000, 2000.

Public Hearings

A Public Hearing is a Special Council meeting that serves as a forum for members of the public to provide input to Council on all matters relating to land use. A Public Hearing is a statutory requirement under Section 890 of the Local Government Act, whereby a local government must not adopt an official community plan bylaw or a zoning bylaw without holding a public hearing on the bylaw for the purpose of allowing the public to make representations to the local government.

All persons who believe that their interest in property is affected by a proposed Bylaw must be afforded a reasonable opportunity to be heard or to submit written submissions.

Public Hearings are held at 7:00 pm once a month on a Tuesday in the Council Chamber at Delta Municipal Hall. The Public Hearing agenda is made public through a notice that is published in local newspapers approximately a week before the Public Hearing. Members of the public wishing to attend a Public Hearing may view a copy of the Public Hearing Agenda online and/or obtain a copy from the Municipal Clerk's Office at the Municipal Hall.
