Role and Responsibilities
The Community Planning and Development Department prepares plans and policies relating to the use of land, and the health, safety and welfare of Delta residents, and provides advice to Council on applications for land development.
The Department is divided into four divisions:
- Development and Current Planning
- Community Planning
- Building and Inspections
- Information and Administration
The Development and Current Planning division reviews and makes recommendations to Council on development applications, bylaw amendments, development permits, development variances, and amendments to the Official Community Plan.
The Community Planning division is responsible for the development of the Official Community Plan and Area Plans which provide the future vision for Delta. The Community Planning division is also responsible for planning issues relating to the Environment, Housing, Agriculture, Heritage, and local area planning.
The Building and Inspections division review applications for buildings permits for compliance to Delta's zoning and building regulations, as well as to the BC Building Code prior to issuing a building permit.
The Information and Administration division issues Business Licenses, provides information for the public and manages permit processing services for the Department.
