Overview
The Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN), the Government of BC and the Government of Canada signed an Agreement in Principle on March 15, 2004. On December 8, 2006, these three parties initialed a Final Agreement. About 434 hectares (1,072 acres) of provincial Crown land will comprise a majority of the land package in the final agreement. The current Tsawwassen Reserve will also become treaty land. In addition to the lands, the Final Agreement contains provisions for financial compensation, wildlife, migratory birds, forest resources, fish, culture and heritage, governance, taxation and local government relations.
On July 25, 2007, TFN ratified the Final Agreement. Ratification is still required by the BC Legislature and the federal Parliament for the treaty to take effect.
