Smoke Free Zones

Smoke Free Zones have been established around the exterior of Delta municipal facilities, parks and places where the public congregates to participate in or view scheduled events. Delta Council approved the establishment of these zones at its Regular Meeting of September 18th, 2006 to augment public awareness about the dangers of smoking and send a positive message to the community, particularly our youth and also improve the air quality around the exterior of municipal facilities and areas. The initiative increases opportunities for the public to enjoy healthy activities and reduces the risk to Delta sports participants, sports viewers and staff posed by second hand smoke.

Smoke free zones begin approximately 10 meters from access points to buildings, from windows that open where people congregate, playgrounds, sports field bleachers, and behind backstops and players' benches. Signage and markings on the ground indicate permissible smoking areas. Significant support was received from the community for this initiative.
