Transformer Fire - Chancellor Apartment Towers, North Delta

March 24, 2009

On the afternoon of Friday March 20th, 2009 at 3:45 pm the Delta Fire Department responded to a fire in the electrical vault of an underground parkade in the Chancellor Apartment Towers at 11910 & 11920 80th Ave.

The fire was self contained within a concrete vault and was suppressed with dry chemical extinguishers.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but a lightning strike may have precipitated a power surge to the transformer which was damaged beyond repair. A contractor is currently working on site to restore temporary power as new transformers are being sourced for replacement.
