Chief Constable Awarded Order of Merit of the Police Forces

Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Chair of the Delta Police Board, offered her congratulations to Chief Constable Jim Cessford, who was made a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces at an investiture ceremony on Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 presided by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. The Order of Merit of the Police Forces honours a career of exceptional service or distinctive merit displayed by the men and women of the Canadian Police Services, and recognizes their commitment to this country. The primary focus is on exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development. Chief Cessford, Canada's longest serving chief constable, as recognized by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, and named Citizen of the Year by the Delta Chamber of Commerce, uses a proactive community-based policing approach that has been effective in reducing crime and its impact in Delta. Mayor Jackson extended her sincere appreciation to Chief Cessford and the Delta Police Department for their dedication and commitment in making Delta one of the safest communities in British Columbia. |
