Message from Mayor Lois E. Jackson & Delta Council on the passing of Councillor George Hawksworth

Mayor Lois E. Jackson and Delta Council announce with profound sadness and regret that Councillor George Hawksworth suddenly passed away today at the age of 70.

Serving his sixth term on Delta Council (1990-2002; 2005-2010), Councillor Hawksworth was an accomplished and valued member of our community, dedicating much of his life to making Delta a better place. During his time on Council, Councillor Hawksworth served on numerous Committees and acted as a liaison to many community groups.

Councillor Hawksworth's commitment to the community and people of Delta was unwavering and he will truly be missed. He was an inspiration and great role model to all.

The flags at all Municipal facilities and the Delta School District will be lowered to half-mast today in honour of Councillor George Hawksworth. Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Delta Council and staff extend our deepest condolences to Councillor Hawksworth's wife Noreen, sons Dan, Andrew and Paul and daughter Jeanine - our thoughts and prayers are with you during this extremely difficult time.
