Flood Watch Update

June 6, 2007

8:14 am

The Corporation of Delta continues to prepare for potential flooding. Staff are monitoring river levels and weather patterns throughout the Fraser Basin to ensure as much advanced warning as possible.

BC Environment has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the Lower Fraser River, encompassing the area between Hope and Delta. Although this means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, it is important to note that Delta is still considered a low risk for spring flooding.

Delta has activated its Emergency Operation Centre to monitor and coordinate flood preparedness and response activities with other government agencies. Engineering staff are actively patrolling the dike system around Delta.

At this time, residents are urged to exercise caution near river banks and avoid on-river activities - boating can be particularly hazardous when river levels and water velocities are high and due to large quantities of floating debris.

If you have any questions or concerns or to report flooding, please call the Delta Flood Hotline at (604) 946-3260
