As a result of high tide, coupled with high winds and power outages, flooding has occurred in parts of Tsawwassen, within the following boundaries:

Boundary Bay

  • From the Pt. Roberts border near Courbold Road to 4th Avenue up to and including 67th Street
  • From 4th Avenue along Centennial Parkway to the Boundary Bay Park Boundary (both sides of road)

Beach Grove

  • From 12th Avenue to 17A Avenue up to and including Duncan Drive
  • Along 17A Avenue up to Braid Road (both sides of road)

Mayor Lois Jackson has declared a state of local emergency.

An emergency reception centre has been established at the South Delta Recreation Centre, 1720 56th Street. Residents requiring shelter are encouraged to attend the facility.

Staff has been present since 6:00 am mobilizing crews.

Approximately 100 police, fire and engineering staff have been deployed. Crews are working to mitigate the flooding and shore-up the beach areas.

Another high tide will occur at 11:00 p.m., but it is expected to be 3 feet lower than the high tide experienced this morning.

Winds this evening are expected to be more favourable with a shift from this mornings' south-west winds to the north west.

There are still localized power outages. BC Hydro estimates approximately 1800 Tsawwassen customers are without power, and that power will be restored later today.
