Public Hearing Terminated - Century Group to Submit another Proposal

April 14, 2011

8:00 pm

At this evening's Public Hearing, Mayor Lois E. Jackson, with Council's concurrence, terminated the Public Hearing on the proposed Agricultural Land Reserve Inclusion Application.

The recommendation to terminate the Public Hearing arose from the Mayor's Summit on the Future of the Southlands held March 24-26, 2011.

At the April 18, 2011 Regular Meeting of Council, a report and recommendation not to proceed with the proposed Agricultural Land Reserve inclusion application at this time will be presented to Council for endorsement.

The termination of the Public Hearing will allow time for Century Group to bring forward a proposal that would provide the Corporation of Delta with public ownership of a larger portion of the lands previously proposed. This approach was recommended by the participants of the Mayor's Summit in an effort to determine how a community-based, economically viable farming operation could take place on the Southlands.

Century Group has committed to submit their proposal by July 1, 2011. Upon receipt of Century Group's proposal, staff will take a thorough review to consider the range of interests on these lands.

At the September 12, 2011 Regular Meeting of Council, Century Group will be provided an opportunity to present their proposal. Following this presentation, the Chief Administrative Officer will provide a full report on Century Group's proposal with recommendations to Council.
