Rainfall Flooding Concerns

January 8, 2009

Weather forecasts indicate the potential for heavy rain has subsided.

The Corporation of Delta fared well during this storm, seeing less than 100mm of rain. Public Works Crews worked hard during this time, to ensure catch basins were cleared so the rain and melting snow could drain. Crews are continuing to monitor areas that are susceptible to floods and puddling.

Other Municipalities saw rising rivers and streams that caused flooding in areas including, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Hope, and the west coast of Vancouver Island.

The Province Has opened their Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PREOC) to help these communities with Disaster assistance.

Motorists and residents should report road flooding to Delta Engineering at (604) 946-3260 during regular office hours and to Delta Police at (604) 946-4411 after regular office hours.

Residents should check to make sure their roof drains are not frozen or plugged by a layer of ice, which forms under the snow.

The sand bag stations will continue to be available for local residents.

The sand bag filling stations are available at the following locations in Delta:

  • Ladner - Delta Works Yard
    5404 - 64th Street
  • North Delta - Sungod Recreation Centre (north side of the public parking)
