8:30 am Crime which continues to put many lives at risk:The theft of metal including copper wiring from Municipal structures is a growing crime which continues to put many lives at risk. In recent months there have been several deaths associated with the theft of electrical wiring in the Lower Mainland. Local Municipalities, Police and Utility Companies have now joined forces to develop initiatives to address the metal theft issue. Crime that costs us money:In Delta, over $200,000 in public funds have been spent to date on the repair of damaged municipal property and additional security measures required due to electrical wiring and other metal theft. We are asking for your help:Your neighbourhood may have already been a victim of this crime. As this crime continues to increase and threatens other neighbourhoods we are asking for your help. If you have a street light or a lighted park close to your property and notice any suspicious activity, near light poles and structures, please contact Delta Police immediately at (604) 946-4411. If you see a metal theft or suspicious activity in progress, please call Delta Police at 9-1-1. |
