Background Information
In February 2011, Port Metro Vancouver released details of its Container Capacity Improvement Program - a long-term strategy to increase container capacity at existing container facilities and add new capacity at Deltaport with the proposed Terminal 2 facility. View Port Metro Vancouver's media release.
Preliminary geotechnical and seismic work started in April 2011, with an extensive offshore drilling program around Roberts Bank, and a number of other field studies are scheduled to take place during the next 12 months. This work will provide data to help determine siting options for the proposed Terminal 2. Information will be posted as it becomes available.
Port Community Liaison Committee
In May 2011, Port Metro Vancouver formed a Port Community Liaison Committee for Delta. The committee, which is made up of six community representatives and nine organization representatives, will facilitate communication between Port Metro Vancouver, local community members and a wide range of other stakeholders on a wide range of port-related issues.
