Zero Waste Challenge

Metro Vancouver's Zero Waste Challenge is a long-term management plan for reducing the amount of solid waste generated throughout the region. The challenge includes initiatives that either encourage or require residents and businesses to reduce the amount of waste going to our landfills by creating less waste, recycling more, and reusing whenever possible.

In an effort to reduce waste, Metro Vancouver has a list of materials banned from disposal that now require mandatory recycling. For recycling options, please visit the recycling section of our website. Banning these materials will help keep an additional 150,000 tonnes of recyclable material out of the landfill.

As part of the Zero Waste Challenge initiative, Metro Vancouver has unveiled a new tool aimed to help residents in the region increase their ability to reuse and recycle. Metro Vancouver Recycles is a free tool to help you find reuse, recycling and safe disposal services in your area. This new database contains over 1,300 locations within the Metro Vancouver region to donate, recycle or appropriately dispose of items you no longer want. It can also help you find places to get the used items you need.
