Boulevard Landscaping
This page covers the following topics:
Boulevard Landscaping Requirements
- It is the responsibility of the landowner fronting on a boulevard to maintain the boulevard.
- Landscaping other than grass may not encroach within 1.0m (3') of a sidewalk or walkway or be within 3.0m (10') of a curb or the adjacent edge of pavement, where there are no curbs.
- Tree canopy may not be lower than 2.5m above a sidewalk.
- Landscaping within 9m of an intersection must not exceed 1.0m in height.
- Landscaping must not obstruct the movement of pedestrian, cycle or vehicle traffic and must not interfere with sight lines at intersections.
A brochure showing the acceptable standards is available from the Engineering Department at (604) 946-3260 or engineering@delta.ca.

Rocks on the Boulevard
Rocks on the boulevard can be hazardous. Since they can cause serious harm to pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles, the placement of rocks between the edge of the road and the property line is not permitted. The homeowner can be held liable for injury or loss incurred due to rocks on the boulevard.
Upon a complaint or if we consider that existing rocks on a boulevard are a liability, Municipal staff will work with the residents to have the rocks removed.

Parking on the Boulevard
Parking on grassed boulevards is not permitted as it causes deterioration. If you see illegal parking on the boulevard, contact Delta Police at (604) 946-4411.

Placing Pavement, Paves or Gravel on the Boulevard
The boulevard area is not to be hard surfaced for the following reasons:
- To maintain an aesthetically pleasing streetscape,
- To provide a consistent road edge, and
- To minimize drainage impacts along with several other engineering uses (i.e. discourage unusual traffic manoeuvres, prohibit perpendicular and angled parking, provide pedestrian continuity, allow for future street lighting, tree planting corridors and replacement of utilities).
