Crosswalks

Delta has a number of crosswalks at locations where there is sufficient crossing demand.

Unmarked crosswalks exist at every intersection. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, pedestrians near the drivers half of the road still have the right-of-way even when there is no marked crosswalk, but a pedestrian must not leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close it is impracticable for the driver to yield the right of way.

Signed and marked crosswalks are installed at locations based on the warrant process set out in the Pedestrian Crossing Control Manual for British Columbia. The parameters are based on the following:

Special crosswalks, which consist of flashing amber lights, are typically only installed where there is a large cross demand across a busy street, located a significant distance from a traffic signal.
