Traffic Signals/Cameras
This page covers the following topics:
Requests for traffic signals should be made in writing to the Roads and Transportation Division of the Engineering Department (by mail or engineering@corp.delta.bc.ca).
The need for a traffic signal is established by the criteria provided in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada. The guidelines include such factors as:
- traffic volume,
- crossing gaps, and
- number of accidents.
The Engineering Department also assesses the need to upgrade traffic signals to make them compliant with the latest requirements of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada.
Signal Timing
Some traffic signals are programmed to allow traffic to progress along the corridor at the posted speed to minimize the number of red lights encountered. In Delta, Scott Road, Nordel Way, 72nd Avenue, 56th Street and 64th Avenue are all programmed to allow Signal Progression. Actual conditions such as busses stopped in curb lanes and vehicles entering and exiting driveways often make signal progression less effective.
If you suspect the timing of a signal is off you can report that to the Engineering Department at (604) 946-3260 or engineering@corp.delta.bc.ca. We investigate signal timing on a case-by-case basis. A field visit is made with the current signal-timing plan. Upon review of traffic movements, modifications to the signal timing are carried out if required.

Other webcams along our provincial highways and owned by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure can be viewed on Drive BC. This website also provides important information for travellers in BC.
